Amateur Radio

Sometimes referred to as ham radio, amateur radio is a popular hobby enjoyed by many enthusiasts worldwide. With use of amateur radio receivers and transmitters, some of which may be specialised for use at home, amateur radio enthusiasts are able to communicate with each other in some cases depending on the type of equipment being use over considerable distances. Amateur radio is regulated by law, quite strictly in some areas of the world and it is vital that a potential operator passes an exam which displays their knowledge of radio before a license can be granted, it is important that people with little understanding of the procedures and techniques involved in operating radio are not broadcasting over the airways. Due to these regulations that are in place amateur radio users are permitted to use a variety of frequencies over which they will have priority. Call signs are also an important aspect of amateur radio and there are a variety of codes to be used in callsigns that users must learn which will allow them to identify themselves and their location to other users.
